POWER IN THE CLOUDS.

WATER TO ASSIST INDUSTRY. THE EXAMPLE OF AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrisht, Received January 1, 7.5 p.m. London, Dec. 31. Mr. Lloyd George visited the water p6wer works in Conway Valley. In the course of a speech, he regretted that Britain was the most backward nation in the utilisation of water power. Germany long used water power for agricultural and other purposes. The Premier pointed to the Australian opportunities, and said the secret of the future lay in the adequate exploitation of our great natural resources. Cheaper power would revolutionise industry Labor was demanding shorter hours, and therefore something must be done to increase production. Willing hands were shrouded in the clouds, which did not demand an eight-hour day. It was true the clouds sometimes struck, but dams were prepared in these cases as .strike breakers, and great reservoirs held the stored water while the clouds were striking.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
