THE LICENSING POLL,
To the Editor Daily' News.' Sir,—ln your issue of ?20th inst.,*y< draw attention to the Licensing ActXw I take it the views expressed ftre yw ovni, and I must say they sound like tl views of a biassed person. I mwt I am not free from biassed feelings, in I try to loi>k at both sides. My opink is that for Prohibition to win it mui have a majority over the valid votes cw against it.' This is the intention of tl Act, and the Prohibition people ghoul be law-abiding, and submit to the wi of the people.—l am, etc.. D. J. GOODWIN. [The Licensing Amendment Act ( 1018 (clause 58) is quite clear that Pit hibition is carried' if it secures "no than one-half of all the.valid votes r( corded at the poll." If, say, 650,000 t«li votes are cast, and Prohibition receivt 275,001, then Prohibition becomes til law of the land.—Ed.]
