A DERBY FAILURE.
SOLD TO ARGENTINE. London, Dec. 10. The Derby failure, The Panther, which was valued at £40,000 as a two-year-oid, has been sold to an Argentine sportsman at a price not stated. [After The Panther's success in the Two Thousand Guineas it was thought that he would develop into one of the best colts of recent years. He was sent out a hot favorite in the Derby, but he did not get away too well, and finished a long way back. That he was not as good as was believed was apparent after the running of the Irish Derby. Ha was again favorite, but ran very badly, and was again unplaced- Consequent on these failures The Panther was withdrawn from the St. Leger.]
