SOLDIERS OR GERMAN?

SOUTH AFRICAN TROUBLE. Capetown, Dec. 12. It is reported from Johannesburg that a singular positon has arisen at the Simmer Deep and Jupiter mines. A week ago the miners employed there Btruek work, owing to the dismissal of p. German, a former internee and an old member of the Mine Workers' Union. The "Comrades of the Great War" took up' the matter in the interests of unemployed former soldiers. The strike was settled by the management agreeing to the man's reinstatement.

Following this 600 officials and surface workers have now pledged themselves not to work after December 17 if this man is allowed underground. Hence a deadlock has arisen.
