TARANAKI COUNTY CONFERENCE.

UNIFORM BY-LAWS. A meeting of the Taranaki Counties Conference "was held at Eltham yesterday morning, when there were present: Messrs C, J. Belcher, in the chair, C. E. McGuinncss and A. Campbell (Eltlmm), E. Walter, W. H. Were and J. O'Neill (Stratford County), Sutherland (Inglewood Borough), Pigott. (Clifton), L, Nairn (>Eltham Borough). Corkill (Moa Road Board), and J. F. Stephenson (Waimate West County), with the Clerjk (Mr. W. J, Tristram), and the solicitor (Mr. J. L. Weir), also Messrs R. D. Tosswill and .T. W. Speuce, Eltharn and Stratford County engineers. The chairman said the special business of the meeting was to consider the uniform set of by-laws that had been drawn up for the contributing local bodies. The by-laws were very comprehensive and quite up-to-date, and would prove of great advantage to those subscribing to tliem.- These were the Eltham, Stratford, Hawera, Waimate West, Egmont and Clifton Counties. Moa Road Board, and Inglewood and Stratford boroughs. He anticipated some sugegstioni; for alterations, and proposed to take these first. Some of the most important of the by-laws were those concerning heavy traffic and motor traffic.

Mr. Sutherland' congratulated the committee responsible for the preparation of the by-laws, which were as the chairman stated, most comprehensive and up-to-date. However, it was unfortunate that they were completed at such a busy period of the year, which did not allow them sufficient, time to consider them.

Cr. Walter agreed with the previous speaker. His council had not had an opportunity to go through them. It \Vrts decided to run through the by-laws, in order that those present might make any suggestion they wished.

There was considerable discussion over the vehicle licensing by-laws before the luncheon adjournment.
