Major J. B. Hine was a visitor to.Naw Plymouth on Saturday. 5 Mr. J. W.*McMillan, Mayonof Stratr ford, witli Mrs McMillan and family, - are spending the Christmas holidays at , the Ngamotu beach. Captain G. G. Smith, Government Superintendent of Mercantile Marina, retires at the end of this month. A Christehurch telegram statu that the Board of Governors of St. Andrew'* Presbyterian College, has accepted the resignation of the Rev. Principal S. R»'. Dickinson. Lieutenant-Commander Bourkp, V.C., D.5.0., French Legion of Honor, it at present a visitor to Wellington. Lieu-tenant-Commander Bourke is the first ' naval V.C. to visit New Zealand since the war. He was a participant in the historic raid on Ostend. Tile death ocurred on Thursday of Mr Charles Bichino, a very oid resident of Waitara anil at one time a member of the Town Board (writes our correspondent). He bad been ill for a number of. years, and death, resulted fro.m t heart failure. His family will have the "sympathy of a large circle of friends. Mr. Pember Reeves, it was announced in the London Times, has received the honor of baing made a Knight Com- ' mander of the Order of George. I„ by the Kin» of Greece, Mr. Reeves, who is an authority on questions concerning Greek national questions, lias been ' chairman of the Anglo-Hellenic League in London. ( Mr. Erie Espiner, 8.A., who hoe been studying for the past two years in the •„ , Teachers' Training College at Wellington, has received an appointment as a junior master on the teaching staff of the Palmerston. North High School. Mr. H. J. r Thompson, M.A., who has been attached to the staff of the Feilding District High School, has also been appointed to the ] teaching staff of th?
