TARANAKI HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held at New Plymouth yesterday, when there were present: Messrs. M. Fraser (chairman), F. J. Hill, E. K. QUmour, C Andrews, J. Andrews, A H. Halcombe, S. Campbell, J. Young, G. Young, ■fid Geo. Capper. HOSPITAL BEPOHTB. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. E. A. Walker) reported that during November, 105 patients had been admitted, 76 discharged, and seven had died. The highest number for ona day was 101, the dally average being 94 5. The number of operations were 57. With the nursing staff depleted, through sickness, the month had been a heavy one, all calls being loyally met. Scarlatina, measles, and diphtheria had been under treatment In the isolation block, which had been continuously open,
Miss Campbell, the Matron, reported that Nurses Hall and Rolston had gone off on sick Imvb and that Sister Stalnton, Nurses Qreatbatch and D. Evifis had gone on sick leave Nurse HoeSJng had returned from holiday leave, and Nurses Wlnfleld, Paget, and D. Evans from sick leave. Misses Corkill and Blawden had commenced their term of probation, but the latter had had to give up owing to an old Injury. The State examination was held oh December 3 and 4, eight candidates sitting, three coming from the Haweta hospital . Miss McLean, of the Hospitals Department, paid a visit that morning. Mr. H. O'Reilly, dispenser and house steward pro tern during the absence of Mr, C. M. Petrtn, forwarded a report on valous details that had been attended to. The reports were adopted.
OLD PEOPLE'S HOME. Mrs Bayly, the Matron, reported that everything had been progressing very favorably. Supplies were very good and discipline excellent. Then had been one admission. There wefe remaining in the home 35 males and seven females. THE FARM. Mr. 1. Andrews, chairman of the Farm Committee, reported on various details and suggested that a special visit should bo paid to the farm to go into various matters. The farm manager (Mr. W. C. Noble) repored that the dairy had returned 15,3961b5. of Milk for the month. The weather conditions '•elng So seveJe, It was taking him all his .;o to maintain the supply, having to ball feed nearly as heavy as winter time. He had supplied the hospital with 240 desen eggs, the home with 2% dogen cabbages, and had sold 2041ba. of new potatoes. In reply to Mr. Campbell, the challoian said that the farm had paid so far. Mr. Campbell considered, as an old farmer, that the farm was run on wrong lines altogether, and It should J» run differently to make it psy. If it could not pay It should be dispensed With.
Mr Young said that while criticism was efty the critics should be prepared to bring forward some remedy. The chairman said that the matter could be discussed at the text meeting, which will be a apecial {arm meeting. GENERAL. Messrs.
