NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

THE MONTHLY MEETING. The New Plymouth Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. Jas. Clarke), and Crs. r. J. Hill, W. R Short, A. E. Sykes, AV. A. Collis, V. Griffiths, A. S. Brooker, and the General Manager (Mr. P. T. Bellringer). The various reports covering the operations of the Council during the past month, which were published yesterday, wore considered, and were received. The secretary of the Frankley Road Settlers' Association wrote expressing surprise that the Council considered Govett Avenue was in good order, ana did not need repair until next wjnter. The letter continued: "The last report we had was from the engineer, wlio said that Govett Avenue was worn out, and it would cost about £2OOO to put it in order. What we want is a road good enough for the 'bus to run into the park, and we consider the borouirh collects enough rates from us to give us a little consideration. We did not even get the cart for rubbish on clean-up day. I have been instructed to ask the Council to spend the £SO already authorised for repairing the Frankleigh Park Hill, as it is in a very rough state."—lt was decided to inform the Association that as the engineer was employing all available men on tar-sealing he could not spare any men for the work asked for this summer.

The borough or'""er reported that Lemon Street, from i.iiot Street to Hobson Street, was in an extremely weak state, and was practically baTe of metal. Recently the roller passed along the street and directly afterwards the sewer pipes were found to be shattered to pieces, with consequent blockage. The engineer presented estimates involving an expenditure of £348 to put the section of street in order.—The General Manager said it was found that the sewer was so badly damaged that the «'ork had to be put in hand at once. This action was confirmed.
