PATEA ELECTORATE MB. G. V. PEARCE WITHDRAWSMESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER TO EIGHT HOK. W. T. MASSEY HAS FOBWASSED THE fOUOWIHO MESSABE:— TO THE ELECTORS OF PATEA: I have to announce that, in compliance with my urgent request, Mr. G. V. Pearce, who has worthily represented the Patea electorate in Parliament for the last eleven years, has consented to withdraw hia candidature at the forthcoming general election. Mr. Pearce has generously taken this action in order to prevent vote-splitting with Mr. W. D. Powdrell, who is also standing as a supporter of the Government, and to ensure that the seat will be represented in Parliament by a member who will assist the present Government in giving effect to those legislative measures and matters of adminis- • tration which must be faced and fully dealt with during the period of reconstruction. I desire to take this opportunity of pubicly expressing my appreciation of Mr. Pearce's action in standing aside at this juncture, and also of his faithful and valuable services to the district and the legislature. Mr, now becomes the official Government candidate for the Patea seat, and I request for him the support of all electors who desire to see the prosperity of the Dominion placed upon a solid and permanent basis. w. F. MASSEY. Auckland, December 14th, 1919.
