DARING ROBBERIES.
A BOLD BANK ROBBERY. JEWEL THEFT IN LONDON. By Telegraph Press Assn. —Copyright Received Dec. 14, 5.5 p.m. London, Dec. 13. A remarkable series of daring robberies occurred yesterday. A man went into a Yorkshire penny bank in Leeds as it was closing and called out "Hands up," an<*. covered the manager, two clerks and a woman assistant with a. revolver. The manager tried to rnali the intruder, but he was shot through the head. The man then locked the clerks in a room, seized £4OO, and drove away in a taxi waiting outside, the driver of which did not know anything unusual had happened. Another robbery of £10,444 worth of jewellery from a bedroom of a house in Cadogan Square (one of the fashionable residential quarters of London) occurred early in the evening while the whole household was about. The thief climbed a portico and entered the first floor and escaped. In another case a couple of thieves in Birmingham carried away a safe containing £440 from a restaurant while the diners were looking on, none suspecting that there was anything wrong. —AU9.-N.Z.
