COLLISION ON A BRIDGE.

CLAIM FOE INJURIES RECEIVED. A claim was made In the Supreme Court yesterday by Ingram A. Colson, New Plymouth, against Ebenezer Wooldridge for £IOOO damages for injuries received by one of defendant's motor drivers conning into collision with him with a motor car on the Waiwakaiho Bridge on March 19, 1919. Mr. A. H. Johnstone (with him Mr. C. S. Croker) appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. A. A. Bennett represented defendant. Mr. Bennett submitted the ease was Dot ripe for trial on the ground that on Monday last (six days after the original date fixed for hearing) an amended statement of claim had been served, and as he was entitled to file an amended statement of defence within seven days of the date of the service of the amended statement of claim, the case could therefore not come on for trial at the present sitting of the Court. He thought the going on with the case now would be an cmbarassment to his client. Mr. Johnstone said, while not wishing to place any difficulties in the way of his client, he thought the matter could be arranged so that the case Would be heard at the present session. It .was to adjourn the hearing until Saturday.
