ECHO OF A RIOT. By Telegraph.—Press AstooJation. Christchurcli, Last Night. ' At the Magistrate's Court a. returned soldier named Huia Gilbert Dalley, was fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment, for assaulting the city inspector during the disturbance at Mr. Massey's meeting last week. EMPLOYERS AND WORKERS. Christchurcli, Dec. 9. The local Employers' Association has eudorsed the proposal adopted at the annual meeting of the Employers' Federation and has set up a committee to bring about a new order of relationship between the employers and workers. It has also appointed eight representatives to confer with other centres in Wellington. INFLUENZA IN THE DOMINION. Wellington, Dec. 9. Cases of influenza reported between December 4 and 8 are:—Auckland, 77 mild, one pneumonic, II severe, total 89; Wellington, 25 mild, four pneumonic, one severe, total 30; Canterbury, six mild, two pneumonic, three severe, total 11; Otago, two mild, one pneumonic, total three. Tne Chief Health Officer stated that the increase for the whole week is only 1.4 on the previous week. There is no sign of a wave of infection. • SELLING SKIMMED MILK. Christchurcli, Dec. 9. Leonard Hadfleld. milk vendor, was fined £75 in the Magistrate's Court for selling milk below the standard. The milk was 53.85 per cent short of cream as calculated from the standard of milk fat. Defendant had been twice previously convicted. The magistrate, Mr. McCarthy, said the deliberate adulteration of milk was nothing short of murder. The offence had evidently been wilfully committed and skim milk sold as pure milk. Defendant and his wife denied this, hut the magistrate declined to alter his decision.

TRAMWAYMEN'S DISPUTE. Wellington, Dec. 9. Following the failure of the recent national conference to secure a settlement of the tramwaymen's dispute, the men are now considering tneir future nolicy. Although no definite information is available, it is understood that lust prior to the general election the Wellington men will 'decline to work any overtime. It is stated that similar tactics will be adopted in all other centres. The men emphasise the fact that the recent conference broke up without discussing general conditions and did not get beyond the wages issue.
