EARLY SIGNING EXPECTED. MODIFICATIONS OF DEMANDS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Dec. 8. Mr. Bonar Law anticipates the early singing of the peace protocol.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. The Allies have consented to modify tile protocol in the direction of submitting' to the Hague Conference the question whether the' tonnage demanded in substitution for the Scapa Flow destruction will cripple Germany. Other features will be modified, and it is expected Germany will now sign the protocol.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. London, Dec. 4. Replying to a question, Mr. Lloyd George stated that the Allies had the right to demand the surrender for trial of any enemy, and it was intended to enforce that right.
Regarding the forthcoming international conference to consider the settlement and future of Russia, the Premier said it would be composed of representatives of the same Allied associated Powers as had hitherto been acting together. It would not include representatives of Soviet Russia. He hoped the Treaty of Versailles would be ratified before the end of the ' month.
AN URGENT SUMMONS. BRITISH AND FRENCH CHIEFS CONFER. Received Dee. 9, 9.50 p.m. London, Dec. 4. The War Office announces that FieldMarshal Wilson (Chief of Staff) has departed for Paris, in'response to an urgent summons to consult Marshal Foch in connection with the Peace Treaty.—Reuter Service.
