THE PATEA SEAT.
MR. POWDRELL'S candidature. (Published by Arrangement.) A representative meeting of'delegates from Air. Powdrell's committees from all over the electorate, was held in Waverley on Tuesday last, Mr. A; Hunter being in the chair. There were 38 delegates, and ten apologies were received. The meeting was very enthusiastic throughout, and very encouraging reports were deceived from the whole electorate, The following resolution was carried: "That this fully representative meeting of delegates of Mr. Powdrell's Committees from the whole electorate, after having read the telegram received from Mt. Massey, unanimously adhere to the decision already' come to by the District Committees, that Mr. Powdrell's Committee absolutely refuse to allow Mr. Powdrell to withdraw from the contest, and although Mr. Massey has endorsed Mr. PearceVi candidature this meeting is convinced that the only hope of retaining this seat for the Reform Party is for Mr. Powdrell to contest, the seat, as Mr. I'earce has lost the confidence of the electors, and has no possible chance of winning at the forthcoming election."
