McDongall wrote his poem at the time of the Boer War, but during the present war it has been frequently republished. It refers to soldiers ss sordid killers who would murder for a fee, and adds:— "Hog aoulad and dirty handed Ye sell yourselves for gain, 'And stand forever branded, Bed felons after Cain." —Aus.-N.Z- Cable Assn.
