EFFECT ON LABOR SCARCITY. Sykes referred to what he -had seen done in America in the wav of providin" temporary accommodation for visitors during holiday seasons, and he thought something might be done on the same lines here to relieve the shortage of labor. The Mayor said the chairman of the Housing Committee was away at the present time, and he suggested that Cr Sykes should be a sub-committee to consider ways and means of providing accommodation for workers for the council on the dormitorj principle, with a common dininjr hall, during the next month or two. This proposal was adopted, Cr. Sykes to confer with the engineer as to the actual requirements.
