CAPTAIN ROSS SMITH, NEARING AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Preas Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 7, 5.5 p.m. Batavia, Dec. 6. Captain Ross Smith passed Batavia at 3.25 this afternoon. He arrived and landed at Kalidjotte at four o'clock. Interviewed, he stated that he was starting at daylight to-morrow for Sourabaya. It was a four hours' flight if the weather was favorable. In any case he was within four days of Australia. Dutch flying officers carried him shoulder high on arrival at Kalidjotte, and they carried him to the Governor-Gen-eral, who welcomed him.—Aus.-N.Z. POULET READY AGAIN.
BANGKOK THE NEXT STAGE. Received Dec. 8, 12.30 a.m. Rangoon, Dec. 5. Poulet has had his aeroplane engine completely overhauled, and after a trial trip on Sunday, he intends leaving for Bangkok on Monday morning.—Reuter Service.
MATTHEWS TRUSTING TO LUCK. Vienna, Dec. 2. Matthews says he expects with luck to overtake Ross Smith.
