DISTRICT NEWS.

PUNGAREHU. (Trom Our Own Correspondent.) On Tuesday evening, the 18th November, the residents of Pungarehu tendered a farewell social to Miss and Mr. P. J. Campbell, who have left this district for Okolce, after having resided her for the past seven years. During the .whole of the period Mr. Campbell always assisted in any movement for the improvement of the district, whilst Miss Campbell has taken a prominent part in all patriotic matters and also during the Influenza epidemic of last year, so that as soon as It became known that they had sold oaf and were leaving the district, a strong committee was formed to make arrangements for a fitting farewell, and they did the work well, and it is questionable if a more enjoyable function ha 3 ever been held in Pungarehu. During the evening the chairman farewefled Miss' and Mr. Campbell, who, he said, would be greatly missed, having during their stay helped in everything for the good of the district. Miss Campbell had also been always willing to help in cases of sickness. He wished them every happiness andi prosperity in their new home. Be then handed' Miss Campbell a handsome gold bracelet watch and Mr. Campbell a solid- bather suit case ai a slight mark of esteem. The company rose and sang most heartily "Tor Tfiey Are Jolly Good' Fellows," and "Auld Lang Syno" concluding with three hearty cheers. Mr Campbell suitably replied, expressing his appreciation of the settlers' thoughtfulness in making the presentations, and thanked them very much Wr their kindness. After a bounteous supper had been disposed or dancing was resumed and kopt no with vigor until the early hours. The dance music was supplied by Mrs. K.- Pope (piano), and Mr $\W .W' Barrett and J ■ Orbell contributing extras, the duties of M C'» being capably carried out by Mr T Barrett.
