PREMIUM BONDS.

REJECTED m BRITAIN. By Telesroph—press Aasn—Coiiyrieht. London, Dec. 1. The House of Commons, by 27<S votefl to 84, rejected Mr. Bottomley's motion in favor of premium bonds. Mr. Chamberlain admitted that, on further consideration, he had changed his mind and was now, without raising the moral right or wrong, opposed to premium bonds on the broad ground of financial expediency. There was no attraction in premium bonds apart from the gambling chance. They would probably capture some money not now saved, but an inconsiderable amount coinpared with the money which would be withdrawn from the savings banks and war loans. Mr. Bonar Law endorsed Mr. Chamberlain's views.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
