CAPTAIN ROSS-SMITH. NOW DUE AT SINGAPORE. , By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyrteht. Received Dec. 4, 0.40 p.m. Weltevereden (Java), Dec 4. Captain Ross Smith is detained at Singora and is arriving at Singapore to. day. POULET DELAYED. THREE BURST TYRES. Rangoon, Dec. 3. M. Etienne Poulet had arranged to start to-day, but three tyres burst as the machine was moving. He will try to leave to-morrow.—Reuter. IMPORTANCE OF THE FLIGHT. London, Dec. 1. Major Blake, aeronautical correspondent of the Sunday Time 3, contrasts the immense public excitement regarding the trans-Atlantic aerial flight with the indifference regarding the much more important flight to Australia, The former was a stunt, more or less useless, except as an advertisement. The Australian flight has a direct bearing on the important question of commer-. cial aviation. Major Blake states that Captain Rosa Smith will probably win the prize and adds that the far-seeing Chinese Government has already purchased 100 similar aeroplanes for internal communication. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Melbourne, Dec. 4. The cruiser Sydney is patrolling between Koh Pennan (an island off the Malay Peninsula) and Darwin in order to assist aviators flying to Australia.— AUB.-N.Z. table Assti.
