NEW SHIPS
THE P. & a UttE: VESSELS TO BURN OIL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 3, 7.10 p.m. j London, Nov. 29. The P. and O. Shipping Company's report states that the company has contracted with Messrs Harland and Wolf to supply five steamers suitable for the Australian emigrant and cargo service, via the Cape. The vessels will be 13,500 tenners and will be called the Ballarat, Buiramald, Baradinc, Barrabol, and Bendigo. The P. and O. Company has also contracted with Messrs Armstrongs for a mail steamer of 15,800 tons. The company's passenger steamers will burn oil to facilitate loading.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Received Dec. 3, 10.45 p.m. London, Nov. 29. The P. and O. Company, after placing .£450,000 to the contingent fund for overhauling steamers badly knocked about by the war, and £200,000 to the reserve, have a credit balance of £651,557.
