PUKEKURA PARK BOARD.

THE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Pukekura Park Board was held last night, there being present: Mr. C. E. Bellringer (chairman), Mrs C. H. Burgess, Messrs. H. Ford, R. Cock, W. C. Weston, A, S. Brooker, and the secretary (Mr. P. Stainton). The chairman welcomed Mr. Weston as a member of the Board, expressing tlie opinion that his services would be of great value, especially in regard to the sports ground, etc. CURATOR'S REPORT. The curator (Mr. W. W. Smith) reported that the time of the staff had been taken up mowing grass and generally clearing up the grounds. Sevr eral days' work had been put in on the ! sports ground, and by regular work it was hoped to get it back to its former . prestige. The Cricket Association had i been doing good work since taking over ■ the grounds and had purchased the necessary equipment for keeping the ground in order. Two tennis courts had been formed for the girls of the Central School and the Technical College, while the boys of both institutions played . cricket on the outer portion of the ■ grounds. Frequent inquiries were made • for hire of the boats on Sunday*. The strom? winds during the month had done eery little damage. The general vegetation was making vigorous growth. The sum of £1 19s 2d from the hire of boats and collection box was forwarded. ; It was decided that the matter of hir- ' trig the boats on Sundays should be de- . ferred until next meeting. f TEA KIOSK. ! In regard to the erection of a tea kiosk the chairman reported that the Board had met Mr and Mrs Burgess on the grounds in order to decide the site, and it had been agreed that the kiosk should be built in front of the present building, fronting on the lake. It would necessitate the removal of the bathing shed; but it would be'necessary for the Board at the meeting toi confirm the decision, and he moved that the site be approved. This was seconded and carried unanimously without discussion. i Mr. Bellringer then moved that the s bathing- shed be removed and re-erected . near the shed at present on the sports ■■ grounds.-—This was agTeed to. It was also agreed that on the plans • being prepared, thfe Board should hold a ; special meeting for the purpose of ap- , proving them, and tlffit the work during . the erection of the building should be • under the sole control of Mr and Mrs. > Burgess. SANITARY ARRANGEMENTS. A letter was received from the health " inspector (Mr. A. H. Kendall) calling attention to the inadequate sanitary arrangements in the park. Th? chairman said it was strange that such a complaint should come just when these matter.' !iad been attended to by the Board, and lie fe'o sure that Air. Kendall could not know what had been done. The arrangements were infinitely superior to those in any other sports ground or park in the town. It was decided to reply to the inspector, informing him of what the f Board had done in this respect. FINANCIAL POSITION. i , The chairman submitted a statement y of the Board's financial position, which r showed that there was a balance of . £153 Is lOd, which included the £l3O s of Mr. Burgess' honorarium, which was j earmarked for the erection of the tea r kiosk. Mr. Bellringer said it would t probably he necessary to take some means of raisiug money in order to carrv on until the end of the financial year. n The question of having a special park t day was discussed and was eventually ( referred to # sub-committee, consisting ' of llrs Burgess, Messrs. C. E." Bellringer, A. S. Brooker, W. C. Weston and the j secretary. e The matter of evening concerts during the summer months was also discussed and referred to the same committee, j Mr. R. Cock was appointed overseer for tlio current month.
