SUNDAY BAND RECITAL.

THE ATTRACTIONS OF "AOTEA." The beauties of Messrs Sole Bros' Aotea" property, on Avenue Koad, combined with a recital by the Citizens' Band, should contribute a strong attraction to hundreds of town and country people on Sunday afternoon, when these grounds are to be thrown open to the public. This exquisite little area is one of the most beautiful pieces of native bush about New Plymouth. Nothing can be seen of this seven and a half acres of bush from the roadway, but directly one enters the grounds its beauty is at onee apparent, and what has been done by the hand of man in the matter of forming walks, making rustic bridges over small streamlets, artificial ponds and natural waterfalls, together with the planting and transplanting of trees and ferns, all combine to make a beautyspot of a rare character. There is a. fine variety of native trees, a splendid collection of pungas, while the paratawniti (horseshoe) ferns are probably the finest to be seen in the district and there are also innumerable specimens of the Prince of Wales' Feather fern. The ground orchids and the tree orchids arc also beginning to show up. A nicely levelled plot of grass in front of a quaint Maori whare built in a shady nook and surrounded by seats on the encircling terraced- banks, makes an ideal place for the band to play, and should bring those who gather there on Sunday, very near to the heart of nature. A walk to the bank of the le Heimi river, which borders the grounds, reveals a delightful vista of native growth overhanging the water which cataracts its way towards the sea over large boulders. Along the high bank which rises precipitately above the walk which is at the verv water's edge there is to be seen at night time a veritable pyrotechnic display of glowworms, and it is Messrs Sole Bros' intention to invito the public to witness this display on some evening durinn- the summer season between certain hours • The grounds will be open on Sunday from 1 |>.m. in order to «; ve counter

people ample opportunity of seeing them. For the convenience of townspeople a 'bus service will run from the tram stopping place at the corner of Devon and Eliot streets to the entrance to the grounds. The recital will commence at 3 p.m. The collection which is to be taken up will be divided between the New Plymouth Beautifying Society and the Tourist and Expansion League.
