PERSONAL.
Mr. J. J. O'Shea, chief clerk, has been promoted to the position of stationmaster at New Plymouth. Staff-Sergt. Eric Kenny, formerly of the Bank of New South Wales at New Plymouth, and later at Eltham, is returning to New Zealand on the Ruahine. Mr. A. E. Rawson, manager of ihi Bank of Australasia at Temuka, has received notice of a transfer to Hawera, and' Will probably leave Temuka next week for Hawera. Mr. Denham, of Ashburton, will succeed Mr. Rawson, pending a permanent appointment to the vacancy. The Marine Department has received advice from Captain Bollins, of the Government steamer Hinemoa, stating that when the vessel called at Milford Sound it was learned that Mr. Donald Sutherland, keeper of the accommodation house and a widely-known identity, had died on October 24th. Bishop Averill returned to Auckland by the Rimu last night. The Bishop has been on his annual visit to the Taranaki portion of his diocese, and has had a very busy time. He arrived in New Plymouth on November 7, and in the three weeks he has been in the district he has' visited practically all the parishes, including all outlying stations. While in England, Mr. W. B. Fisher, who returned to Wellington this week, met the Kev. Mother Mary Aubert, of Wellington, who had- just arrived from Rome. The rev. mother, who is 85 years of age, had met with a motor accident, but hoped to return to New Zealand shortly. She told Mr. Fisher about some of her experiences in Italy at the time of the last earthquake there. She mentioned that she helped to rescue a woman buried up to her neck in debris for 48 hours, whose fingers had been partly nibbled away by mice.
