MIDHIRST DAIRY FACTORIES.

To Tho Editor. Sir,—Ploase allow me space in your paper to reply to a paragraph, in to-day's Issue regarding Mr. Noilson's cheese factory at Midhirst. He says that he paid Is 10% d for last season's butter-fat, Tills is hardly in accord-i ance with facts. If he works it out he will find he only paid Is 9VSd, or Id per lb butterfat behind tho Mldhlrst Dairy Company. The lirlce he is paying Oils season is Is 10% d, and when the whey butter comes into operation he intends to pay another %d per lb, which will bring tho total payment up to Is lid, which, I think, is a long way behind 2s. The parapaph states that every factory Mr. Nellson has started has been a success and later taken Over and made co-operative. Tes, Mr. Editor do you know why? If not, I will tell you: Because ho has got some of his suppliers bound down so that they are compelled to make It co-operative within another 15 months or sign up again for another long period. As regards It being a success, I don't doubt lttor himself. I can quote a small factory not many miles away from Mldhlrst that Mr. Nellson used to own and which was taken over by his suppliers last season. Under co-opera-tion It will give Mr. Nellson a shock In regard to pay-out. I hear that it has made progress payment of Is «d per lb and at the end of the season will pay out a substantial bonus, which will easily beat Mr. Nellson and the price he intends to pay (viz Is lid), although the factory has only got an output of 280 tons, and Mr. Nellson, as the paper says, has 1500. Before 1 close I would like to »ay this: It Is no use anyone trying to Binash tho Midhirat Co-operative Dairy Company, as a good lot of us old settlers, had enough of the propriety concerns In the old days, and we do not Intend thera getting a Arm footing again 1 If we can help it.—l am, etc., t„n.. . „ » OLD SETTLER. Mldhlrst, Novembor 26.
