ELTHAM.

(From Ov Own Correspondent.) Nov. 25. Saturday's frost not only affected the potatoes and such like vegetables, but even peas, etc., were s.tfeeted, and the writer, who had a fine crop of gooseberries, finds they are all ruined and falling everywhere. The meeting, held last night, to reform the Eltham Brass Band, was poorly attended, only eight persona being present. It was decided to "carry oh" and go into practice and endeavor to secure a few more members. The Pipe Band met the same evening. There was a full muster. Mr. A. Stewart was chairman. The secretary, Air. Tristram, tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret, and Mr. D. Mcßae was elected in his stead. A committee was appointed to purchase three new drums. Messrs A. Stewart and I. Jorns were elected delegates to attend the Athletic 'League meeting and make arrangements for the reception of pipers and dancers (of which there seems to be a fair numbfer) on Boxing Day. It was decided to hold a concert on Boxing Night in the Athenaeum Hall, the proceeds to go to the band funds. Mr. Tristram will provide the hall, rent free. At the S.M. Court, this morning, Francis C. Franks, carrier, sued John Martin, of Stratford, for £5 16s for carting timber from the box factory yards to Stratford. The dispute arose over a matter of measurement, the planitiff charging on superficial, which the defendant considered excessive, as some of the timber was only half-inch timber. The Magistrate said there seemed to £a a difference in the methods of the two towns, but on the evidence gave judgment for the plaintiff. In another case, Robert Green, carpenter, applied for possession of a cottage occupied by M. G. Baldwin. Green, who has been in ill-health lately, has been unable to follow his occupation, and had sold his larger property and wanted to reside in the cottage. Baldwin said he had lived in the house for fifteen years, and could not at present get another one. The Magistrate made an order for possession after 17th December. At the meeting of the County Council this morning, Mr. C. J. Belcher was reelected chairman. The only other business was the election of a Finance Committee, the members of the previous committee being re-appointed.
