INFLUENZA.

HORE WELLINGTON CASES. NO CAUSE FOR ALARM. i>, Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. During the week ending November 24, fi> cases of influenza were reported in the Wellington health district, six being of a pneumonic type. Discussing the position, the districti health officer, Dr. Watt, stated the increase in the number of influenza cases was no doubt attributable to the changeable weather experienced during the last two or three weeks. Dr. Watt threw out a warning that people should not discard winter clothing too soon, because there was a risk of contracting, a chill owing to the sudden changes in temperature. t Dr. Watt remarked that out of the 62 cases reported only C were pneumonic, and the 02 cases were pretty evenly disi tributed over the whole Wellington public health district. There was nothing to indicate the presence of an epidemic in any place. A total of 63 cases in a health district where that population numbered 400,000 was nothing alarming. "The type of disease we are getting at present is, generally speaking, very mild and only a small proportion of the cases are pneumonic in nature," he add-, ed." Of course with a disease like influenza precautions must be taken by the public. The department is keeping a close watch on the position and the strictest precautions are being tak'en in every case coming under notice." CASES'IN AUCKLAND SIX REGARDED AS SEVERE. Auckland, Last Night. Forty-three cases of influenza were notified to the district health officer on Monday, and to-day they comprise 22' cases in the city and suburbs, and 21 in the country districts. Of the total, six are regarded as eevere. The country notifications include the Hamilton cases. Six cases of pneumonia in the city and suburbs Were also notified.
