ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
DEATH FROM EXPOSURE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. A man s body was found yesterdav 011 the slopes of Mount Victoria. It is believed to be that of a hospital patient, named Davis, who wandered from the institution on Friday. Apparently he died from exposure, as there are indications that lie camped in the vicinity of where the body was found. FATALITY ON A STEAMER. ■ Wellington, Yesterday. At the inquest on Thomas Whitley, metal worker's assistant, as the result of falling through an open hatchwav in the 'tween decks of the Kia Ora on F:\day last, his skull being fractured, the coroner, in returning a verdict of accidental death, said it had been shown plainly that the hatchway over which deceased fell was not sufficiently lighted. 'Mr. O'Regan, for (he relatives of deceased, pointed out that it was not part of deceased's duty to attend to the lighting of the hold. The regulations distinctly provided that when a hatchway was left open it should be properly lit. The regulation had not been complied with. The crtroner said the attention of the Harbor Board should certainly be called to the fact. . ,
