Mr. P. G. Stuekev, inspector of schools, Masterton, has been appointed senior inspector for the Wanganui district. The Hon. J. T. Paul received advice yesterday that his resignation as a member of the Legislative Council had been accepted by the Governor-General. —Press Association. Word has been received that Dr. and Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Brewster, and Dr. and Miss Brewster are sailing for New Zealand by the„Kigoma, which was due to leave England last week. The death took place on Saturday of W. Ngapaki, an old native of * the Whemiakura district. A large tangi is at present being held. Mr. \V. J. Poison is slowly recovering from the result of a motor-car accident on Thursday while driving to Fordell. The cause of the accident was one of the wheels of the car collapsing. When the Prince of Wales attended the British Societies' dinner at New York, he walked to the table at which Australian officers were seated and said, "Hello, Aussies; I'm looking forward in the near future to making a trip to Australia. I hope you will tell the Australians that when you return." An error in the transmission of a cable message last week led to the rumor that Mr. J. W. Joynt, agent for New Zealand University in London, was dead, and obituaries were published in the press. As there were reasonable grounds for doubting the accuracy of the report, the university office cabled the High Commissioner, uid has received a reply that Mr. Joynt is perfectly well.
