PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the New Plymouth Patrittic Committee was held on Friday last, Mr. W. J. Chaney presiding. An acknowledgment of a donation of £5 5s towards providing tea to returning soldiers, was recSved from the Hawera Women's National Reserve. The Returned Soldiers' Association notified .that Archdeacon Evans had been appointed their representative on the committee. The Auckland Provincial War Relief Association wrote in respect to their scheme for assisting permanently disabled • soldiers to acquire farms, houses, or businesses indicating that each application was treated on its merits, but that the general principle was to complete the purchase and for the soldier to apply for a loan of about two-thirds of the purchase money, the Association accepting a second mortgage free of interest for a term of five years. A letter from the Department of Internal Affairs intimated that the committee was recognised as a branch of the Taranaki War Relief Association, and was acting in accordance with the conditions laid down, and that the existing arrangements would not be interfered with. Several applications from soldiers for assistance were dealt with. Reports in connection with applications from 19 permanently disabled men for the War Relief Association's grant were considered and recommendations will be made to the Association.
