Mr. J. S. Fox, of Okato, left by the mail train on Saturday morning 'on a holiday trip through 'the Wellington, Uairarapa and Hawkes Buy districts. Word has been received that Miss Mildred Yorke, second daughter" of Mr. J. Courtenay Yorke, of New Plymouth, lias won the gold medal in connection with the recent Auckland hospital examinations. The death took place at Grevmouth yesterday of Mr. Conrad Alphonsus Burke, in his 7oth year. He was well known for many years as travelling repreesntntive for Messrs M, O'Brien, Ltd.. Christchtircli boot manufacturers,, having travelled Nelson, Marlborough, the West Coast and the North Island for a quarter of a century. , He was widely known and highly respected as a veteran of the "road." He was a pioneer on the West Coast in 1860. He leaves a family of live daughters all well known on the West Coast; also one son, Mr. J. ,T. L. Burke, Examiner of Titles at the. Deeds Office, Wellington.—Press Association.
