CANTEEN FUNDS.
DISPOSAL OF THE SURPLUS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A conference of senior officers of the iV.Z.E.F. has concluded. It was estimated that £50,000 had accumulated from regimental and canteen funds for dispersal. The conference Tesolvod that an amount he retaVcd for the payment of debts and for the publication of regimental histories, and the balance placed with the Treasury for investment. The Returned Soldiers' Association was asked .Jo express an opinion on the disposal of the canteen funds, some of which should be allocated to scholarships for children of returned soldiers and a widows and orphans fund. It was further derided to form an Anzac Memorial, to be combined with Australia and the 29th Indian Brigade, also that a national memorial be erected in Wellington. It was decided to recommend to the Defence Minister that the New Zealand Rifle Brigade he retained as an integral part of the territorial forces.
