Mr. J. S. Coimett arrived back from Auckland by the mail train last night. Mr. C. llichardson, Government auditor, is in Inglewood on his annual audit visit in connection with the Borough Council and Moa Road Boaru atiairs. On "Wednesday evening the returned soldiers of the' liawera district entertained their distinguished comrades: l.ieut. J. (I. Grant, V.0., Lieut, il. J. Laurent, Y.C., and Sergeant Loveday, winner of the King's Prize at Eisley. At a social to Lieuts. Grant, V.C., and Laurent, V.C., at hawera on Wednesday evening, the Mayor (Mr E. Dixon) took occasion to refer to the valuable services rendered by Mr. K. H. Nolan iu connection with the N.Z. Soldiers' Club in London. lie thought Mr. Nolan's services wore deserving of the highest recognition, and he proposed to wait upon the Premier suggesting that Mr. -solan should lie fittingly honored for his valuable work ou behalfiof the New Zealand soldiers. One lady, who had been intimately associated with the N.Z. Soldiers' Club, writing to him of Mr. Nolan's services, said that he deserved the V.C. H? was sure that all the members of the Association would support his proposal that Mr. Nolan should receive the highest honor that could be bestowed upon him. He had asked Lieut. Grant, X.C.', and Mr. TV. V. Patterson (president of the Association) to accompany him as a deputation to the Premier upon the matter. Lieut. Grant, V.C, considered that the Mayor's suggestion was a capita; one. He also paid a warm tribute to Mr. Nolan, and said that no man was_ better known or had worked harder in fathering the New Zealand soldiers in London than Mr. Jsolan, who really deserved the highest recognition that cnnld possibly be given for his services. —Star.
