The Government has not yet received definite information regarding the selection of a ship to replace the Amokura as a training ship. The commander of the Amoluira was sent to Britain to make the selection, and it is understood that lie has done so. The vessel will require some fitting and will reach New Zealand early next year. The Dominion will have two training ships, one for boys and the other for naval ratings. The Amokura takes tlie hoys at present and will be replaced by the vessel that has Hen selected. The other training fhip will be the cruiser Philomel, which did good work in the early years of the war, and was then laid up in Wellington. The Philomel is not a modern boat, but she is considered to be quite Buitable for the service required. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., held their annual meeting on Monday. A dividend of 8 per cent for the year was declared. At an extraordinary general meeting following the cn-rital of the company was increased to £500,000 by the creation of 50,000 shares of £5 each, 10,000 of sueh shares being preference, carrying the right to a fixed cumulative preferential dividend at the rate of 0 per cent per annum," and 40,000 ordinary shares of £."> each, payable 10/- on application, 10/- on allotment, and the balance by calls of not less than £l. The farmers who co-operatively run the Waingawa freezing works (near Masterton) have decided to extend their enterprise to include woollen mills. This interesting and important fact was announced at a public meeting in Masterton by Mr. Sykes, MP., in expounding the progress and development of Masterton industries, thanks to the combination of AYairaTapa farmers.
