THE BUTCHERS' STRIKE.
AUCKLAND TROUBLE UNCHANGED, TWO STRIKERS PINED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. '. Auckland, Laat Night. Two butchers on strike, who wore ar< rested during the disturbance yesterday, and were subsequently bailed out by the secretary of the Butchers* Union, were charged, first, with using insulting behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and, secondly, that they wrongfully watched a shop with intent to prevent a man from doing what he had a legal right to do, namely, working. There was a large gathering of strikers in the precincts of the'court. A somewhat warm discussion took place between the Magistrate and counsel as to a request made by counsel lor an adjournment of the cases, which was opposed by the police. Eventually the case was adjourned until the afternoon) when fines of £5 were imposed fof the chaTge relating to the breach of the peace, the other charge being adjourned - for a week. The position as regards the strike is unchanged, although another shop opened this morning, and the employers regard the position as highly satisfactory. There is some talk of a conference between the employers and the union, and ' that, failing a conference, the slaughtermen may take some action.
