LONDON WOOL SALES. London, Nov. 14. The wool sales have closed; 150,000 bales v.ero offered and practically all sold. Compared with tho last sales the closing rales, fur best merinos advanced fully 15 per cent., aurage faultles 10 to 15 per cent, scoured 15 iit-r cent., finer crossbreds 10 per cent., medium 20 per cent., coarso 15 per, cent., slipes .uul scoured 15 per cent., good mcvino lambs 10 per cent., faulty, both greasy and scoured V/s per cent. A few merinos were offered to-day, and a largo selection of greasy crossbreds. There was good competition, and a strong sale. A new record price of 123 d per lb was realised for Australian scoured super-combing. Business firms, as well as the official authorities interested in the wool trade, agree in predicting that growers' proflls will remain well above the pre-war average for tho ' next two years, whether the British Government attempts another deal or adheres to the arrangements terminating the purchase in June, 1920. The war has left Continental Europe almost hnro of home-grown material, and the ab-. semie of tho Russian contribution leaves a great gap In the normal supply. Recovery in other countries has scarcely begun, but Wurope must be clothed. The restoration of Continental manufacting will far precede local production of tho raw material on a large scale. French and Belgian mills are resuming strongly, and Germany and Austria will scum follow, tempted by consumers' readiness to pay ;hlgb prices. The rapid consumption by manufacturing firms largely explains tho extraordinary bidding at the latest wool sales. REDUCTION IN MEAT PRICES. I London, Nov. 14. | There is reason to believe that the Tecent I reduction in tho price of meat was partly due 1 tlie pressure of Australian meat Interests, Mio found Hint all the cold storage in Britain 5 -as crammed with meat, and this prevented , ho discharge of incoming shipments. An Australian firm informed the authorities 1 i ;hat unless more meat was released and the}, ut eoeourace freer cou«wo«es,
they would bo compelled tv close their Australian works next season. SHARES. London, Not. 14. Waihl Junction shares: Buyers 13s 6d, sellers 14s, 3d. P. and 0.: £660 and £6BO.
