HOME RAILWAYS.
NEW PLAN OF CONTROL MEN TO ASSIST MANAGEMENT, By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 17, 7.55 p.m. London, Nov. 16. The Government has offered the railwaymen equal representation with general managers on a board invested with plenary powers to control the railways and settle conditions of service and wages.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Details of the scheme for joint control of the railways are as fofiows: Mr. J. 11. Thomas, M.P. (General Secretary of the National Union of Railwaymen), and two other trade unionists will join the central advisory committee which supersedes the Government's railway executive. The new committee, in addition to formulating the policy, will take an active part in directing the railwfty organisation though the director of the railway companies will continue to hold their present positions. The Government trading interests and the public will also be represented on the committee. Though the scheme falls far short of the railwaymen's proposals, the men regard it as a great advance towards complete nationalisation and the joint control of railways by the State and the unions alone.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
