J The High Schools Board last night resolved to convey to the boys' school, through Mr. Moyes (the principal), its appreciation of the splendid record again put up b_v the school in the Imperial ■Shield competition, when both the senior junior teams again occupied premier position for New Zealand. In the Eenior competition the school obtained fifth position, and in the junior competition -ourth, fifth and sixth positions. In reply to some remarks made at the mayoral installation yesterday in regard to various municipal undertakings, Jlr. I'. T. Bellringer (town clerk and man*'le borough had applied for the maximum sum allowed by the Act (£10,000) for a housing scheme, chiefly for its own employees, and he was pleased to say that a'favorable reply to the application had been received. In regard to the electric light and power extension scheme he said the work could not be commenced until the final estimates were completed, and there was a good deal involved in getting levels, etc, betore the estimates could be made.

The acute position that exists in the building trade in New Plymouth is being experienced in other parts of New Zealand.
