THE WHANGAMOMONA MEETING.
Sir,—With reference to Mr. W. Gleeson's letter as reported in the Taranaki Daily News, denying his motion passed at Major Hine's Whangamomona meeting, Mr. Hine has made the following statement, which I would ask you to publish in your paper:—Mr. Hine said: "Mr. Gleeson's unaccountable lapse of memory is hardly explainable, but those people who know Mr. Gleeson and myself will form their own conclusions. Not only did Mr. Gleeson move a vote, practically word for word as reported in your paper, but lie did so without any solicitation, and, further, he appealed to me as to whether or not he should add the words "and confidence in you, Mr Hine.-' Any person present at flic meeting (other than blind partisans) must, support what lam now saying. [ understood, by'the way, that Mr Gleeson had to undergo some severe disciplinary chad* from old political friends for the support he «c----eorded me on the night of the meeting, even if that support was only temporary. The incident is trivial, certainly, but your report was not contrary to fact."— I am, etc., G. F. LAWRENCE, Sec. Hon. J. B. Hine's Committee.
