RIFLE SHOOTING.
Messrs A. Blair and A. F. Colo, who went to the Rifle Association meeting at Randwick (Sydney), have just returned to Hawera after a five weeks' trip, Speaking to a Star representative, Mr. Cole said they had had a fine trip, but did not meet with success at the rifle range. Conditions they found very difficult, especially with the windage. There were very large entries from every Stale, especially from Victoria, to which State most of the prizes went. Mr. Cole said that from general appearances Sydney is very prosperous, and has grown considerably, especially in (he suburban areas, since he was over some years ago. It seems to be generally conceded, however, by people who know both countries, that progress in New Zealand has been as great as in Australia. The drought is beginning to be serious, and is causing a great deal of anxiety in business circles. Mr. Cole had a trip to the Blue Mountains and the Jenolan Caves.
