CAMPAIGN IN THE -SOUTO SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS. f (By Telegraph—Special to Newa.) Invercargill, Last Night.' ',- Sir Joseph Ward has had remarkable} welcomes in Southland. On his arrival at Invercargill, the Mayor, Councillors, and a large number of people met him and welcomed him, wishing hia sueoas* in the elections. The Southland Pipe Band attended and accompanied him to his hotel. At W-nton last night he was met by the Mayor and councillors and the peo* pie, and .was af terwardß accompanied to the hall by the local band. The building was packed, hundreds being turned away. Farmers from 60 miles attended tlie meeting, which was the most successful ever held at Win ton. < On arrival at Bluff this evening, Sir Joseph was welcomed by the» Mayor; and a large gathering of people. He ««U dressed a very large and entlnuiastioS meeting. , "S The Southland Times, in a leader tod day, says that Sir Joseph Watd opened] his campaign last night with an excellent! speech, and an excellent meeting. H«| was in capital form, and his ejpeech w clear, vigorous and effective.
