SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. Excelsior (Hawera) played llanaia at the latter place on Wednesday. Excelsior made 51 in their first Innings—W. Ryan, with 11, being the only double-figure scorer. In their second innings, Nichol made 24, Ryan 18, and Vowless 12. Whnlen took eight wickets for 19 runs. Manaia responded. with (i?—fcynskey 10, A. Hughes 15. Grant Cowan (4 for 11), secured the best bowling average. In their second Innings, Excelsior declared with three wickets down for 61. Jlanala had lost four wickets for 1(1 when tfcue was up, Manilla thus winning on the first Innings Okaiawa defeated Midlands, at Hawera, by 153 to 85. Penny, for Okaiawa, scored 51, Phillips 41, and Harrison (not out) 16. Pratt took three wickets for 27, and Mnchln three for 10. Worrnll 26, and Machin 18, were the most successful bats for Midland. Phillips, four for 25, and Penny, three for 22, were the most effective of the Okaiawa bowlers.
