PIANOFORTE RECITAL.
MISS-'LEATHAMTO APPEAR AT CHIiISTCHORCH. The-many friends of Miss Constance r Leatham, in Hew Plymouth, will be glad to hear that she is to appear before a Christchurch audience to give a pianoforte recital on Friday next, the 21st inst. MiSB Leatham's accompaniments are well known locany, and though she lias given recitals here which have included works from the best known masters, it is safe to say that she ha 3 never before attempted anything quite up to the standard set for her coming recital. Hie programme arranged includes a Bach toccata awl fugue in D Minor, Beethoven's Appasionat Sonata, selections of Wagner-Lizt's opera, overtures from "Taunliauser" and "The Flying Dutchman," a Chopin Nocturne and Polonaise, 2 Etudes and the 6 flat Valsc, a Brahms RJiapsodie and Scherzo, and Schumann's Romance Op. 28 No. 2. It may be said without hesitation that the list is such that is rarely seen on the programme of the best Tecitals given by professionals of world-wide repute. Miss f-eatham is being introduced to the Clu'istcliurch public by Mr. Ernest EmpEon, one of the most eminent masters in the South, who, in a notice of the recital, says: "To a technique equal to the demands of the moat exacting compositions, she unites the expression of a vivid musical temperament. The programme will serve to indicate the recitalist's high musical standard, as well as the versatility of her taste and styles." The result of the recital will !>e looked forward to in New Plymouth with considerable interest.
