PLUNKET SOCIETY.

A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. A , very enjoyable concert was given in the Good Templar Hall last night under the auspices of the Pluriket Society, the object of the entertainment being to raise funds for the flower stall to be held in connection with Plunket Day in New Plymouth on Saturday, the 22nd inst. The concert was arranged by Mrs. Stuart Russell, who is to be complimented on providing a programme which was thoroughly enjoyed by a large audience. A pretty decorative scheme carried out on the stage was greatly admired, and lent a bright aspect to tho liali. The programme was a varied one, and all the items were greatly appreciated. Miss Beryl Hirgt opened the entertainment with a pianoforte solo "Arabesque," and her artistic playing brought an insistent encore. Mr. f}. V. Lambert and Mr. N. D. Day, ivlio are weil-known to New Plymouth audiences, were the male soloists, and each contributed seveial pleasing items. The singing of Mrs. Wilkes was particularly good, and in the second portion of the programme she had to respond to two encores. Variety was given to the musical items by Mrs. Stuart Russell and Miss Lynne Edwards. Mrs. Russell gave a number of very fine recitations, while Miss Edwards gave several pretty dances. In each case encores were demanded. The accompaniments were played by Miss Hirst and Miss Ckong.
