MR. POWDRELL'S CANDIDATURE.
(Published by Arrangement). j To the Editor. Sir, —I have read 'with interest the press report that W. D. Powdrell, Esq., Hawera, is contesting the seat on behalf of the Patea Electorate. My connection with Taranaki dates since 1905, and during that time it lias not, to my knowledge, had a sheep and dairy farmer, or a member, who thoroughly understands sheep, dairy and farming district interests representing it. It has often been said that the best commercial men will not put up for Parliament, but in the case of Mr. W. D. Powdrell this does not! apply, because he is a good commercial man as it is possible for a highly educated farmer, dairy factory, meat works, bacon factory, box factory, loan company builder to be, and for all round knowledge and special ability in Parliament he cannot be beaten by the Premier or any Member in the House. Mr. Powdrell never says one word that he does, not mean, therefore he guards himself against the "rippling brook" method of speaking. His energy, charactkr and ability will carry him far in New Zealand politics, because 'he has that breadth of vision and keen penetration that makes the world's best men. 1 know this because, having travelled the world often, and done successful business with men in all parts of the world, the knowledge of men has given me the measure of a man, whoever he may be. If the Patea electors wish to do New Zealand and their own electorate a good turn plump for Mr. Powdrell and one day in the not far distant future this Dominion will be the richer for such a .thorough, upright man in I am, etc., 8. TURNER. "The Grove," Lower Hutt.
