ALLEGED STABBING CASE,

A dispute between two men occupying a room in a Willis Street boardinghouse last night resulted in one, Martin M'Donough, being arrested on a charge of stabbing the other, Daniel Colton, a returned soldier. The latter had just drawn his gratuity and the pair had apparently boon celebrating the occasion. Colton is now in hospital with a wound in the chest, which is said to have been inflicted with a pocket knife, but is not regarded as serious. Martin M'Donough was charged today with having assaulted Daniel Colton so as to cause him actual bodily harm. Accused was remanded to Wednesday. Bail was not applied for. It is not anticipated that serious results will follow on Colton's wound. METHODIST WOMEN'S UNION. Blenheim, Nov. 8. The fifth annual conference of the Methodist Women's Missionary Union has just teen conducted at Blenheim under the presidency of Mrs. Duke, of Dunedin. The membership was reported to have reached 1400 and reports showed increased s interest in the work among the Maori girls and women of the Dominion and the work of missionary sisters in the South Sea Islands. Tile officers for the ensuing year are as follows: —President, Mrs. Pinfold (Wellington) ; secretary, Mrs Newman (Wellington) ; treasurer, Miss Read (Wellington) ; corresponding secretary, Mr 3 Hills (PalmeTßton North).
