The railwaymen at first decided' to appoint a secretary at £IOOO a year, to devote the whole of his time to the duties. Mr. J. H. Thomas, M.P. (their present secretary) did not desire to quit the House of Commons, and the railwaymen then decided to appoint two secretaries at £IOOO each, giving Mr, Thomaa all power. It was also decided to present Mr. Thomas with a large house and grounds.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
