DAVIS CUP MATCHES. After a false alarm' that seemed to indicate that there was no chance whatever of a team from the British Isles coming to Australia this year, the welcome news has come tnat passages have been secured for the three members of the British Isles team on the Walhihi, and that it will be possible to play the challenge match about January 9. Enthusiasts all over Australia and New Zealand will be delighted to learn that after all we shall be able to seo Brookes, Patterson, Lycott, O'Hara Wood, and Thomas, or others, displaying their full skill against one opponent at least worthy of the best they can do. Although Gerald Patterson defeated Kingscoto easily, there is no doubt whatever on results that Kingscote is a player of high skill. His subsequent defeats of both (iobert anU Laurontz have proved that. And it may well be that after having handled Oobert's severe services and one experience of Patterson's, Kingscote may have learned how to «i»ner those of both Brookes and Patterson. A. K. Lowe is an awkward, not to say ungainly player, but none the less he is a fine driver, especially on his forehand, and with some weeks of, hard practice he may develop hs Parke did in 1912. Beamish is a stylist, but Is still a fine player of the English school. Ail the arrangements that have had to be held in abeyance will now proceed, and it Is probable that the match will be played on January 16, 17, and 19. This is a week later than the dates proposed by the English Association, but the extra week will. give the team more practice and will avoid a clash with an Interstate cricket match.—Sydney Referee.
