On Wednesday, at the residence of the bride's parents, Meremere, Cyril Arthur 'Rutland was married to Florence Adelia Georgina Beatrice Goile, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs Gone, of Meremere. Mrs. MeHugh and Miss Ballantiae, of Manaia, both of whom have been doing valuable work as nurses in Egpyt. and patrol work in London, returned to Manaia on Thursday. The Bishop of Auckland, the Rt. Kev. Dr. A. W. Averill, arrived in New Plymouth last night on his annual visit to the Taranaki portion of the diocese. Dr. Averill is the guest of Arohdeaeoa Evans. The death occurred on Thursday afternoon in a private hospital, Hawera, of Mrs Vine, wife of Mr. H. Vine, of Manaia. The deceased lady had been a sufferer for a number of years and her death was not altogether unexpected. It is only a few weeks since Mrs Vine's mother and father (Mr. and Mrs. Crocker, of Normanby) died within a few days of each other. At the meeting of the West End School Committee last night the headmaster reported that it was with great . regret that he announced that Mr Bary, first assistant, was resigning at the end' of the month. He paid a tribute to the excellent work rendered by Mr Bary who had always received from tha school inspectors the higtest enconiums for thoroughness of work and for skill displayed in methods of teaching. He took that opportunity of thanking Mr. Bary lor the splendid results, at the same time congratulating him on W „ ap . poiutment to Mangatoki School. The post of Assistant Director of the Cawthron Institute of Scientific Research at Nelson has been filled by tha appointment of Mr. Theodore mas, M.bc 8.A., Cambridge. Mr. Rigg i 8 * Aew Zealander, and he had a brilliant career at Victoria College, and he gained tuo 18i>l exhibition scholarship. Ho went to Cambridge in 1901, taking his research degree ten years later, and during the war Mr. Rj gg undertook agricultural and rehrf organisation mission* on behalf of the Society of Friends in Fiance, Serbia and Russia. He is at present writing research institutes and experimental stations in the United states.—Press Association.
