WEST END SCHOOL.
MEETING OF THE COMMITTER , The ordinary meeting of ,the West End School Committee was held last night, there being present Messrs, W. W. Thomson (chairman), W. J. Bennett, WH. Broome, J. Hawker, J. Brokensliire, and J. Garcia. The report of the chief inspector (Mr. A. J. Morton), on the year's work was read, and showed excellent results, every subject being marked "very good." The" report referred to the need for two additional class rooms and two additional teachei'3 being added to the stuff. It also touched on the unsilitaabilty of the site and the need for Uie erection of a school on a new site. Mem-' bers of the committee expressed their satisfaction at the report, which was considered an excellent one in view of the unsuitable conditions, and it was unanimously resolved to send :i letter of appreciation to the headmaster (Mr. I). P. Evans), and the stall'. In reply to the request of a deputation from the School Committee asking that a portion of Reserve T should be dedicated as a school site, a letter was received from the Borough Council stating that in view of the fact that an area of three acres adjoining could be obtained by the Department, the Council could not see its way to give the site requested, but in the event of the Education Department securing the aujoin:ng site, the Borough would facilitate the closing of a road through the property. It was resolved to forward a copy of the letter and of a plan forwarded therewith to the Education Board and ask that immediate steps be taken to provide a suitable site, pointing out the excerpts in the inspector's report referring to the matter. * The headmaster reported that for the five weeks ending October 31st, 14 children had been admitted and sis.' withdrawn, leaving the present roll number oIS. The average attendance was 402.'d, the percentag-j of attendance being 90.2. The attendance had been considerably affected by the prevalence of mumps and colds. Mr. Bary and Messrs. Evans, Divehall, and iiawkes had been absent owing to illness. In two days, Mr. Koydhouse, physical instructor had inspected the various drill squads, expressing himself as very satisfied with the work. Dr. Gunn and Nurse Wise had also paid an official visit to the school, the examination being chiefly confined to infants up to the age of six. The school had been closed for the Governor's visit. Labor Day, and three days for the physical refresher class.
